Turquoise and Taping Off

Firewall in turquoise
The firewall was sprayed turquoise while on the rotisserie, as it was much easier to access then.
Taillights in white
The inner rear taillight areas were sprayed white and taped off for future spryaing.
Fenders and splashpan prepped for spraying
The fenders and splashpan were sprayed turquiose as soon as the body work was done on them to get them out of the shop area.
Splashpan in turquoise
The splashpan came out pretty good - except for a few fisheyes. We had never dealt with fisheyes in paint before and had to quickly research how to fix. Dusting on a light turquiose coat helped. After talking to our local paint shop, we determined that it was something in the environment at that time as the local professional body shops had suddenly purchased fisheye elminator. That helped a lot, but we continued to have problems.
Fender in turquoise
Despite the fisheyes, the fenders came out pretty smooth, with very little orangepeel.
Fender in turquoise
The fenders were left to air for a few days, then carried into the house and stored in the spare bedroom for safe keeping, out of the shop.
Hatch
The hatch was finished, so it was prepped for spraying.
Tailgate
So was the tailgate.
Hatch
The white gave us no problems with fisheyes.
Tailgate
The tailgate has a bit more orangepeel, but we suspected that it would. Temperature is dropping rapidly as fall quickly approaches.
Body tape lines
The body was taped off for the turquiose and white paint scheme.
Body tape lines
The new paint scheme is not the same as the original, so the tape line is different than it would have been.
Body tape lines
The soundproofing will show around the rear seat brackets, so Kurt wanted it painted as well.
Body tape lines
The taillight was taped off to prevent overspray.
Dash
The dash had a few runs, so those were sanded out and the whole dash was scuffed for a new coat of clear.
Interior taped off
Then the dash and soundproofing was taped off to prevent overspray.
White area taped off
Turquoise would be sprayed first, so the white areas were taped off to prevent overspray.
Gray seal coat
As there were multiple spots of bare metal, a sealcoat was sprayed to adhere to the metal.
Gray seal coat
The passenger side needed seal coat on every panel.
Body in turquoise
Turquoise covers the gray seal coat well.
Cowl vent in turquoise
The cowl vent was sprayed and joined the fenders inside the house.
Peeling tape
The tape was peeled carefully along the separator line.
Body tape lines
The door posts were wrapped in the separator tape as the inside of the post had to be sprayed as well.
Body in turquoise
The turquoise completely untaped and ready to retape for the white
Body in turquoise
No, the passenger side is not a different color. Depending on the available light, the turquoise appears as a different color.
Ramps setup for spraying roof
To reach that long roof, the car ramps were brought in and covered, then set beside the body so that Kurt could walk down the ramps. Even then, the roof was hard to spray.
Prepped to spray white
The driver side, set and ready for white.
Preppsed to spray white
The passenger side, set and ready. The ramp was helpful, but not completely foolproof. Keeping the hoses out of the freshly sprayed paint would be tricky.
