Car Shows and Cruise-Ins

The original intent to take the Ranchero on their honeymoon was cancelled due to weather. Which turned out to be a good thing as one of the shakedown drives just after the wedding ended with the Ranchero died going down the road and would not restart. No matter what, it would not fire over. A trailer ride home and a few diagnostics later indicated a problem at the cam. We tore back into the engine and found the problem.

There is a spacer for the timing gear that rides on the cam shaft. The spacer has a slight taper to it. It had been installed backwards. It finally gave under the stress and broke into four pieces.

It took out the keyhole in the timing gear, but the cam was fine.

Once the timing gear repair was done, a new oil pan was installed to replace the dented and now marked original one.

While we had the car on the lift I took a picture of the shiny tank with the shiny exhaust while they were still shiny.

The Ranchero's first "judged" show, the Edgar Rohr show in Manassas, VA. The judges were the car owners. With all the customizations, we put her in the Modified class.

We made a sign for the window explaining all the customizations and had many questions and compliments throughout the day.

She stands out nicely because of the bright yellow.

When the announcer called the Modified class, the Ranchero was the first car called. We're not sure what that means, but Betsy had been about 20 cars down the role call out of a field of 98. Those 20 we had judged to be much better than her. We're guessing that the Ranchero received the most votes, but even if that is not the case, only 7 cars out of a field of about 60. Not too bad for this restored beauty.
