Engine Work

Ready to pull this engine a second time. The engine bay isn't as clean as it should be and the puddles on the ground are getting larger. The engine is leaking oil.

The radiator isn't cooling like it should. On inspection we found several problems. This will need to be replaced, but funding is tight, so it will have to wait.

Kurt had noticed an alignment problem with the front end and the hood had always be tricky to latch properly, so while the engine was out, he removed the driver fender and identified the problem. Notice the buckle just above the tire. The unibody was tweaked. While the engine is out, we will fix this as well. This process is in the Body Work section.

One very oily engine and transmission.

The streaks of oil start at the valve cover. Not very unusual and indicative of a warped valve cover or misinstalled gasket or worn gasket. Time to clean up the engine and check the valve cover.

The leaks were bad enough to coat the oil pan as well. Kurt plans to straighten out the dents in the pan and repaint it before it goes back on the engine.

Time to clean up the engine bay - again.

Our son had a unique way of reaching the areas in the engine bay to de-oil them. Look a one-kid engine.

One cleaned up, regasketed, and repainted engine ready for reinstallation.

The engine is so happy to be clean that it has 2 smiley faces.

The view down the transmission tunnel. This is why you have to pull the trani and engine to work on the trani - no access or room.

While Sadie was on the lift, we checked and cleaned the bottom side to remove all the blown back oil. Fortunately, this is a small car.

Now that the front end has been straightened and the engine bay cleaned up, the engine can be reinstalled.

Radiator back in place. She's running and ready to drive again. At least for now.
