Tips for Boats
- Sail: starts about 1/2" above the deck; If the sail is too low the
corners may rub against the gutter or dip in th water; if the sail is too
high the boat is top heavy and tends to tip over.
- The keels needed to be placed about 3/4" behind the mast.
- The rudder should be placed touching the keel.
- Make the boat as light as possible. Boats sail best if they have more weight
to the stern, elevating the bow.
- Stability is the key. A flatter and wider hull is the most stable. Test
your boat to check for stability. Weights can be added to level the boat,
but it's best to design the boat so that it is stable without having to add
weight.
- You can tie back the lower corners of the sail with thread and then secure
the "lines" to each side of the boat. This will keep the sail from twisting.
